Given the continuous barrage of oils on the market, here are some important questions that will help you make an informed choice:
- Who is the manufacturer?
- Can I contact them easily?
- What is the composition of the oil (is there more than 1 ingredient)?
- Is the oil organic? If yes, what is the external body that issues the certification? Is it accredited?
- Does the manufacturer provide information on its oil?
For example: Where and how was the product made? Does the producer keep a traceability register for the product? Does it provide the complete nutritional information? Are "How to use" advice and educational information available on the label?
- Is there an expiry date on the product?
- Is there a lot number to trace the product if there is an issue?
- For olive oil, are the terms first cold-pressed or extra-virgin clearly indicated on the label?
- Is the bottle dark and preferably made of glass?
