Apple and Pear Rustic Pie

There's no better way to finish the month of October than with an apple-pear galette? Simple and easy to make, this comforting dessert is sure to please every sweet tooth!

Serve with ice cream and caramel sauce for the ultimate sweet indulgence!

 

 

INGREDIENTS:

For the crust

For the filling

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 4 pears, peeled, seeded and sliced into thin strips
  • The juice of one lemon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

 


PREPARATION:

For the crust

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and canola oil.
  2. Add water gradually to the mixture, kneading as you go to form a ball.
  3. Cover the ball with a clean cloth and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle a work surface and rolling pin with flour and roll out the dough. Set aside.

For the filling

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine apples, pears, lemon juice, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. Place the dough in a 9-inch pie pan and arrange the fruits in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border all around. Gently fold the edges of the dough to cover the fruits.
  4. Bake for about 45 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool before serving. 
  6. Enjoy with a scoop of ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce!
